Day Minus 7 – EP

Hi, Mike Herman Here And Have I Got Something To Show You…

My bad, I was channeling Billy Mays* there for a second. As soon as I heard this album my beard instantly grew fuller and was about 3 shades darker then it was before. This must be what happens when you finally find   that needle stuck in the haystack that your mom always told you about.

dm7band

When I hit the play button and started to listen to this album it made me realize how messed up the music industry is. Day Minus 7 is a flat out amazing band yet they are still unsigned. What makes a record label decide not to sign a band like Day Minus 7 but in turn sign a band like The Ting Tings, that song they sing makes me want to stab myself with a spoon. It just seems odd that they can skip over the goldmine that is Day Minus 7, anyways…onto what you are here to read, an amazing review.

As soon as you hit play on this album you get your face melted by the wall of sound that is “Hate You“. This song is chock full of the good stuff, a catchy chorus and some killer guitar riffs. If you are not singing along to this song after the first time you hear the chorus you may be clinically depressed or something. If this track is any indication about how good Day Minus 7 songs will sound in the future, its safe to say that these guys will definitely be around for a long time to come.

So now you are all riled up after hearing “Hate You” aren’t you? Well, that’s about to change with the next track called “Alive“. This track slows things down quite a bit . The chorus alone on this song pulls you in and doesn’t let go, it has a somewhat eerie feeling that I honestly cannot get out of my head. If “Hate You” wasn’t on this CD this would be my favorite track hands down.

And now to finish off this masterpiece we have “Never Free“, which is quite possibly the best song written for this EP.   Its hard for me to describe this song other then tight, tight vocals, very tight instruments, this is one of those songs that you just cannot pick out something wrong with it. This song may be the best song on the album to showcase the talents this band has, great instruments combined with even greater vocals.

Its been a long time since I have listened to an EP and not said to myself that this was the perfect amount of tracks to show off this band. I have  listened to this EP about 8 times now and I keep coming up with the same conclusion, I want more. Its like im hungry and I cant eat enough food to fill me up. This EP is flat out amazing but I want more songs from these guys. I may very well actually wear this CD out in my cd player, and that hasn’t happened in a very, very long time.

Quantcast

I would like to thank Eddie K at Red Rocket Entertainment for hooking us up with this sweet piece of music ass.

*I mean no disrespect for Billy Mays or his family, the man was a god at finding that one thing that nobody else saw. He will be missed dearly.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mike is just a normal guy. A normal guy that thought finding new music was a challenge. My friends and I built this so that we could find the best unknown bands out there and bring them front and center for your listening enjoyment.
