Parmalee – Complicated EP
Parmalee is a 4 piece modern rock band out of Greenville, NC. These guys have been tearing it up since 2001 so they have some good practice on making an album.
I love new music, especially when that new music comes from a band that I have never heard of or is relatively unknown. I just happened to stumble across these guys on MySpace the other day, so I called up the used CD store and what do you know, they had a copy of it. I drove my ass down there as fast as I could, then drove asian grandmother slow all the way home so I could listen to this masterpiece. Even though I had half of the town laying on their horn as I drove home it was one of the most enjoyable drives I have had in a long time. This CD is an instant classic, not a bad song on the disk at all, half the disk is heavy music, the other half is softer stuff. Its pretty tough to say which side is better, I think I might enjoy the softer stuff just a little bit more on this album.
It starts out with “Gasoline” starts out with a kind of southern acoustic sound then straight into driving distorted guitars and some tight vocals, this is a great song.
“Complicated” is their title track, pretty good rock-anthem song, if I had to pick a least favorite song on the album it would be this one.
“Carolina” really showcases the lead singers vocal ability, this guy can croon if he really needs to. It shows that this band has the chops to tackle whatever type of music they decide to put on their next album.
“Only The Good Die Young” is one of those songs that just sits in the middle, you cant decide if its a hard song or a soft song, this one fits perfectly on either side. Very good in-between track, good vocals on this song.
“San Diego” Oh Snap! This is by far the gem on this album, this song alone could sell this album. Lyrically this song probably is the best, touching lyrics, you can tell that this is a deeply personal song.
“Wash” is a great way to finish this album, awesome ballad-style song. Great chorus and tight vocals really make this song shine.
Im kind of sad that this album is over already, I wish they had some more music on here, oh well…im going to go listen to “San Diego” a couple more times.
This album is simply stunning. Great job guys!
