The Rising Five: Edition #13

Welcome to another edition of The Rising Five, EMURGers! This edition of The Rising Five may be the most promising of the new season. I really hope you enjoy the new five bands in the series.

1. Freestate – Chase the Sun – This Aussie band has been receiving a lot of national attention despite only a handful of shows in the States, but mark my words, if they break the States with this song, they will be superstars in the rock world. They have two great albums out and all of the talent in the world to get a big spot on a tour.

2. The Contortionist – Causality – What is it with Indianapolis and awesome bands? Seriously, am I going to have to move out of New York City to this up and coming scene? This band is a bit more of an acquired taste if you’re not really that much into metal, but ripe when served djent-ly. See what I did there?

3. Ilia – Reaching – You’re going to always find at least one female-fronted band on The Rising Five and for me, that goes to the pop-rock tastiness of Ilia. This three-piece band from Arkansas is perfect for you if you enjoy Barlowgirl or Plumb.

4. Shawn Zuzek – Walking Disaster – I know he doesn’t have an actual music video for this or any of his other songs, but the former Daughters of Mara singer is phenomenal. I love how it’s got a Deftones-ish vibe to this song. It’s a five minute journey through the mind of a creative genius. You’ve got to check out other work from him to really appreciate his work.

5. Mindset Evolution – Relevant – This band is proof positive that if you’re willing to bust your ass on the stage every night, you may just wind up being lucky enough to rock a big stage. Sure enough, this band from Peoria, Illinois broke onto the Rockstar Uproar tour as a main stage act after beating over 5,000 bands for the spot. These guys are going to be the next big thing thanks to that festival and that’s what we like to see here at EMURG.

I like the diversity in this list as we have everything covered from pop-rock to djent/progressive metal. Expect more of the same in future editions of our Rising Five series. Thanks, as always, for listening EMURGers!
