The Rising Five: Edition #11 : The Second Season

Welcome one and all to another exciting edition of EMURG’s Rising Five. Over the last few months, we’ve given you a glimpse at some of the most exciting new acts and we don’t intend to stop now or anytime soon. Let’s get you five more earworms for the next few weeks.

1. Viasava – New Frontier – The talented Lowery family is at it yet again. Clint has his work in Call Me No One and Sevendust, Corey has his in Stereomud and Eye Empire and now, Dustin has his in the up and coming Viasava which has an epic sounding single in “New Frontier”. Really makes you want to go out and conquer the world. Make sure you check out their Facebook for more about their upcoming album One Year Down which will hit stores in August.

2. Anchored – Throwin’ Down (feat. Snoop Dogg) – Sure, having a cameo on your song with the caliber of an arteest like Snoop Dogg helps your band just a little, but Anchored have blazed a path of success on their own (no pun intended…maybe!) touring with the likes of Cold, Saliva, and All That Remains. You can purchase this song which is a non-album single and while you’re at it, purchase their album Listen to This which features catchy little Southern Rock ditties such as “Dirty in Texas”.

3. Kennedy – The Novel Fate – Didn’t have to venture too much further with my next choice, Dallas, Texas area band Kennedy. Kennedy already has a storied past…their previous lead singer was former Faktion lead singer Ryan Gibbs. Not very long after establishing themselves, Gibbs moved on and, thankfully, the band didn’t miss a step with new lead singer Callie Estes. They recently put out their first full effort called Diaries Vol. 1. Another epic sounding single…must be a good week!

4. Cilver – Say You Will – Formerly known as Me Talk Pretty, Cilver is evolving both in name and in sound with this heartstring-pulling version of “Say You Will”. The band made a video for the song dedicating it the memory of the mother of lead singer Uliana Preotu and others who have died from preventable diseases and illnesses due to the healthcare situation in this country. You should check out Me Talk Pretty’s debut EP We Are Strangers, but you should certainly stay on the lookout for something new from Cilver.

5. Bear Crossing – Kings – Finishing up the first Rising Five of the new season is Bear Crossing, a powerful three-piece from Virginia that is a mix of The Mars Volta, Muse, Rise Against, and Coheed and Cambria. Whoa, speaking of epic…don’t take my word for it though, take a listen for yourselves! Apparently, they’ll be recording some new songs, but in the meantime, you can check out their album Our Friend, Hope on Bandcamp!

I think this is an impressive and fresh five to start with, but if you have any suggestions, feel free to post in the comments below or on our Facebook page. If you’re in a band yourself, we’d love it if you’d submit your music for review at the contact tab above. As always EMURGers, thanks for listening and check back in a couple of weeks for Edition #12! My name is Christopher and this is EMURG: Where Music Speaks Volumes!
